Melissa McCarthy may possibly be the funniest woman in the film/television industry as of right now. Throughout the entire film, McCarthy is able to draw a magnitude of laughs. “The Heat” starts off with FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn and a team of FBI members storming a house that leads to Ashburn showing off her special detective skills in finding drugs and illegal weapons hidden throughout the house. Other FBI members despise Special Agent Ashburn as she is very arrogant and always talking down to those that are below her.
Ashburn’s boss, Hale, is being promoted and his position is up for grabs and Ashburn thinks she has the best shot at landing the new position. Hale sends Ashburn to Boston to investigate a local drug kingpin known as Larkin. Upon Ashburn’s arrival in Boston, she has to deal with foul mouthed Detective Shannon Mullins, who has a completely different way in getting results from her perpetrators than the techniques of Ashburn’s. While the two are relentless to team together at first, they both give in to help each other out and become partners in order to catch Larkin and his crew.
As I mentioned earlier, McCarthy is tremendous and her and Bullock form a pretty decent duo for the big screen. Even though Bullock’s character is more of a serious role, she eventually is able to show her comedic skills as well. All in all, this is a pretty good movie to watch, but if money is tight at the moment, I would recommend waiting for this film to come out of DVD.
